How to improve air quality with living green walls

Breathe in healthy air

Air quality is an important aspect of our health, wellness and well-being. It’s not just pollutants outside that are a cause for concern as there are plenty of toxins inside our homes that can affect our health too. A healthy home environment is vital to our well-being, and houseplants contribute to this more than you might think. Plants main benefit is acting as an air purifier.

The average person spends most of their time indoors. We are constantly being bombarded with indoor air pollution. This includes toxic fumes such as formaldehyde, VOCs, trichloroethylene, carbon monoxide, benzene, toluene, xylene, and countless others. The good news is that plants have been proven to filter, absorb and remove toxins in the air as well as add energy rich oxygen.

NASA researchers did a Clean Air Study in the late 80’s on plant abilities to purify the air, that found which are the best indoor plants at removing benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, xylene, and ammonia from our surroundings –chemicals that have been linked to adverse health effects like headaches, dizziness, eye irritation, and others.

Their Clean Air study found the plants are effective at removing benzene, formaldehyde, and trichloroethylene, xylene, and ammonia from the air—chemicals that have been linked to health effects like headaches and eye irritation.

With each additional plant all these benefits are multiplied. For optimal air-filtering, NASA recommends placing at least one plant per 10 square meters of home or office space. A living green wall with plants, therefore, has a major positive impact.

Plant walls function as natural air-filters, creating a cleaner, more invigorating environment that will lead to better overall well-being. A plant wall or a living green wall will remove harmful toxins from your home while releasing oxygen and giving your space a breath of fresh air.
